Before you write — quick fixes
Which iPhone do I need?
Yap requires iOS 18 or later. That means iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation), or anything newer. There is no iPhone 18 requirement.
Yap isn't transcribing anything.
Open Yap Settings and make sure an offline transcription model is downloaded. If the model is ready and transcription still fails, restart the app and send me the device model, iOS version, and what happened.
The record button isn't working.
Check iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone > Yap is on. If a yap silently fails, it's almost always microphone permission. Yap will also wait politely if another app is currently holding the microphone (e.g. a phone call).
I deleted a yap by mistake.
Open Settings > Recently Deleted. Swipe right on a yap to restore it. Recently Deleted holds yaps for 30 days before they're gone for good.
Can I sync yaps between devices?
Not in this beta. Yap is iPhone-first and stores transcripts locally on the device where you recorded them. If sync becomes part of the app later, the privacy policy will say exactly how it works before it ships.
Is my audio sent to a server?
No. Transcription happens on your phone, on-device. The audio is held briefly, on-device, and discarded after the transcript is written. Full details on the privacy policy.
How do I get into the TestFlight beta?
The beta is invite-only while we're early. DM me on X or email and tell me a little about how you'd use Yap. Slots open up regularly.
I have a feature idea.
Please send it. Yap's roadmap is short on purpose — most ideas are "no, not this app" — but I read every one and the few that fit the app's job get built fast.
